DENVER (KDVR) — A person was detained after an altercation led to a shooting Monday morning, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
During a press conference on Monday morning, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said a “person of interest” was found and was being questioned in relation to the shooting.
Around 7:45 a.m., deputies received a call reporting an “individual down.” When they arrived at the scene near E. 62nd Avenue and Broadway, they found a victim with a gunshot wound to the lower leg and applied a tourniquet.
The victim was responsive and gave a detailed suspect description and provided a photo of the suspect vehicle, which deputies located after alerts from FLOCK cameras throughout the area.
The sheriff’s office did not say where the person was found.
The spokesperson said it appears that there was an altercation between a construction worker and a driver. The construction worker was trying to reduce speeds in a work area, and an altercation ensued. The driver allegedly shot the construction worker in the leg, then fled the scene.
The sheriff’s office said in a post on X that the victim is being treated at a local hospital.
The spokesperson said drivers should seek alternate routes as roads are blocked off in the area. Detectives are responding and the mobile crime lab is on the scene. She said officials will have more information to share once questioning is complete.
