DENVER (KDVR) — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash involving four vehicles in Aurora on Friday afternoon.
The Aurora Police Department said they had responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash near Smith Road on I-225 around 3 p.m.
After an initial investigation, police said a woman riding a motorcycle northbound had hit a vehicle in front of her that was slowing down for traffic. After the initial crash, the woman was then hit by a second vehicle, also going northbound. A fourth vehicle was also involved in the crash.
The woman was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after arrival.
Police said no other injuries were reported and the vehicles involved in the incident remained on the scene.
The interstate was closed between U.S. Highway 40 (Colfax Avenue) and Interstate 70, the Colorado Department of Transportation said. Traffic had been diverted to 17th Place.
CDOT cameras showed many vehicles stopped on the interstate in the area.
The lanes were reopened around 4:45 p.m., about two hours after the crash, as officials were investigating and clearing the scene.
APD said Friday evening, traffic investigators do not believe that speed or intoxication were contributing factors to the crash.
