DENVER (KDVR) — The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said that a person was stabbed on board a Regional Transportation District light rail on Friday afternoon.
The agency told FOX31 that the stabbing occurred on the light rail between the Dayton and Nine Mile stations after an altercation between two individuals.
The agency said that the stabbing victim departed the light rail at the Nine Mile station, and the suspect stayed on board. The train is now being held at the Florida Station, and deputies were able to take the suspect into custody there and transported them to the county jail. The station is located along Interstate 225 near HCA HealthOne Aurora Hospital.
The sheriff’s office said that the victim was transported to a hospital and their condition was not known as of about 4:15 p.m.
RTD said that train service on the H and R lines between Florida Station and Southmoor has been suspended due to police activity. The R line service south of the Dayton Station is also suspended, and RTD pointed customers toward the E line trains to complete south trips.
Bus shuttles will be in place between the Florida and Southmoor stations, but the transportation agency said that normal bus routes may have faster alternatives.
FOX31 has a crew on its way to this scene and will update as information, including the extent of injuries and what led to the stabbing on the light rail, becomes available.
