DENVER (KDVR) — A groundbreaking event for a project planning to deliver “long-needed safety and mobility improvements” along Vasquez Boulevard in Commerce City was held Wednesday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation, along with Commerce City, Adams County and other partners, held the event to recognize the groundbreaking of construction for the Vasquez Boulevard Improvements Project, which began in July.
The project will be bringing upgrades along the corridor between Interstate 270 and 64th Avenue. The project has already started in the first of two phases for safety and traffic improvements on Vasquez Boulevard, according to CDOT’s website.
“This project represents the power of cross-jurisdictional partnership. By working hand in hand with the Colorado Department of Transportation, Commerce City, and our regional partners, Adams County is helping deliver long-needed safety and mobility improvements along Vasquez Boulevard,” said Commissioner Lynn Baca, chair of the Adams County Board of Commissioners, in a press release. “This groundbreaking is a major step forward in ensuring our transportation network keeps pace with the needs of our growing community and is, above all and as is always our top goal, safe for all who use the roadways.”
One of the upgrades during the first phase includes converting the intersection of East 60th Avenue, Vasquez Boulevard and Parkway Drive into a four-way intersection, said CDOT. There will also be reconfiguring lanes, new medians and widening the roadway in certain areas.
The construction cost for the project is estimated at $10.9 million, with the projected completion date in January 2027, according to CDOT.
