DENVER (KDVR) — Two people were arrested following an incident that led to a shelter-in-place for neighbors in Edgewater on Tuesday.

Officers responded to the area near West 20th Avenue and Marshall Street around 10:30 a.m. and contacted a woman who said she had been a victim of crimes in a nearby residence, the Edgewater Police Department said in a release Wednesday.

Police got a search warrant and searched the residence while the Jefferson County Regional SWAT team secured the area.

Neighbors were asked to shelter in place, and the police department said it was in contact with local schools, though none were involved.

Two people were arrested, 32-year-old Virginia Winters and 40-year-old Jim Nuddy Terry, each on the following charges:

  • Assault in the first degree
  • Second-degree kidnapping
  • Assault in the second degree
  • False imprisonment
  • Possession of a controlled substance

“Investigators believe that the victim and suspects knew each other previously and that there is not an ongoing threat to the public,” the department said.

Winters was also booked on arrest warrants unrelated to Tuesday’s incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Further details about the incident and booking photos have not been released.
