2 facing charges after throwing rocks at tow truck driver in Lone Tree

LONE TREE, Colo. (KDVR) — Two people were arrested after allegedly threatening and harassing a tow truck driver outside an apartment building parking garage near the Regional Transportation District’s RidgeGate Parkway Station last week, according to the Lone Tree Police Department.

Police said the suspects followed the driver to the garage, where dash camera video shows the suspects throwing a rock at the truck. Police say they also threw a metal pipe at the tow truck and threatened to slash the truck’s tires and spray the driver with bear mace.

“It was a violent encounter that escalated very quickly,” said Lt. Travis Sneith with the Lone Tree Police Department.

Snieth says the tow truck driver was able to safely call 911. Shortly after officers responded, the suspects were found in the stairwell of a nearby apartment building.

Body camera footage released by the department shows an officer with his gun drawn, ordering the suspects to show their hands and get on the ground.

“Public safety is paramount in these situations,” Sneith said. “Officers did what they had to do.”

Police said the suspects also stole an electronic device from the tow truck, although it’s not clear why this driver was targeted.

Both suspects face multiple charges, including felony robbery, criminal mischief and smuggling contraband.

“Everybody has the right to do their job and feel safe while doing it,” Sneith said. “Unfortunately, this situation escalated into what it did.”

No injuries were reported.
