2 fatal shootings overnight Friday in Denver metro: police



Editor’s Note: An original version of this story said there were three shootings. The Denver Police Department since revealed that an investigation found what police believed to be a shooting on West 14th Avenue and North Lipan Street was actually a fatal hit-and-run with a vehicle.

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Police Department responded to two fatal shootings overnight Friday in the Denver metro area.

DPD first said at 11:45 p.m. that it was investigating a shooting in the 2700 block of South Fenton Street. The victim was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, police said in an update Saturday morning.

DPD said in its update that preliminary information indicates a suspect shot the victim and was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound by officers attempting to contact him. The suspect has since been pronounced dead, according to police.

Less than an hour after announcing the first shooting, DPD said it was investigating a seperate shooting in the 1100 block of North Syracuse Street. The victim, identified as a juvenile male, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said in an update Saturday morning.

DPD said in its update that preliminary information indicated there was a house party in the area that spilled into a parking lot where the shooting occurred. No arrest has been made as of 9:18 a.m.

Investigations into both of the alleged shooting incidents are ongoing, police said.
