DENVER (KDVR) — Three families were displaced after an apartment fire in Lakewood, according to a post on X from the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming.

Just after noon on Saturday, West Metro Fire Rescue responded after reports of multiple units of an apartment building being on fire.

The fire occurred in the 1100 block of South Beach Drive.

West Metro Fire Rescue provided an update on Sunday night that the fire was started by an unattended grill on the deck of a first-floor apartment.

Crews said that one of the apartments suffered significant damage, while another was damaged from extensive smoke. The smoke could be seen for miles, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.

One resident was injured and treated by medics at the scene.

The American Red Cross said that its disaster action team responded to the incident yesterday.
