DENVER (KDVR) — Three people were injured during an apparent gunfire exchange after a fight broke out at a party in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood overnight, Denver police said.

One suspect who an officer shot at fled the scene, and police have not found that person, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said.

The party and subsequent fight happened in the 5100 block of North Biscay Court just before the time change at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, police said. Officers responded to reports of a fight and as they arrived heard what they believed to be an exchange of gunfire.

“They then moved towards that gunfire, saw several people running, identified one individual that did have a weapon,” Thomas said. “They challenged that individual, they did not drop the gun, he continued to be a threat so one officer, I believe, fired shots at that individual.”

Thomas said officers did not know if that person was hit by the police and have been unable to find them.

Officers did find two handguns in the area, as well as three people injured in the initial gunfire exchange that police heard.

A police spokesperson to FOX31’s Kasia Kerridge there may be several suspects, and one of the people in the hospital could be a suspect.

All three received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital.

Thomas said it was a large party with several people involved, but all of them have since fled the scene.

“This is an active scene that we’re still investigating, trying to determine exactly what happened and with who all was involved,” Thomas said.

Thomas said anyone with information cant contact police through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers anonymously.
