ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — First responders from across Colorado showed up at Station 53 in Arvada to line up for a procession for fallen firefighter Kevin Jacovetta.
“Kevin was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2023 then untimely passed away,” said Arvada Fire Captain Travis Fox.
The fire captain told FOX31 he worked alongside Jacovetta for a few years, who always had a welcoming smile on his face.
“He was the light of the room and the laugh in the kitchen as well,” Fox said.
According to Arvada Fire and Colorado Professional Firefighters, Jacovetta’s death from an illness is considered a “Line of Duty Death.”
“Its never a guarantee we wont get sick, we do the prevention piece as best we can but that’s a hidden danger we face,” Fox said.
The procession started at Station 53 and traveled to Storyline Church, where a service was held for Jacovetta. The service was open to the public and lasted for a few hours.
Karen Anderson, an Arvada community member, came to the procession to honor Jacovetta.
“We appreciate the selfless acts of giving your life to something that is bigger than you,” said Anderson.
Another community member, Scott Anderson, also came to show support during the procession.
“It’s a spirit, it’s a family of firefighters and a family of law enforcement to keep us safe,” said Anderson.
Fox said seeing all of the civilians who didn’t personally know Jacovetta really brought a sense of community, knowing their hard work and daily work risks don’t go unnoticed.
“Kevin was one of the most respected and dedicated in the organization,” Fox said.
Jacovetta leaves behind a wife, two daughters and three grandchildren.
“We come together as a big family and that’s what were here for to support each other and Kevin’s family,” Fox said.
