Army vet, breast cancer survivor gearing up for her first 'Komen Colorado More Than Pink Walk'

DENVER (KDVR) — LaShon Carter is excited to participate in this year’s ‘Komen Colorado More Than Pink Walk’ at City Park on Oct. 18.

The walk will raise money for breast cancer patient support, public policy and research.

“More than just treatable, we want to make this curable,” Carter said.

The Army veteran and real estate agent was just diagnosed with breast cancer in March. She had two surgeries and 15 rounds of radiation.

“I am on the mend, I like to say. I’m doing pretty well. I think my biggest thing right now is fatigue,” she said.

The mother, grandmother and wife is grateful for her care and so glad that a mammogram caught her tumor at an early stage.

“My prognosis is positive. I was stage 1A. It didn’t go into my lymph nodes, my chest wall, anything like that,” she said.

Now Carter is urging other women to get their recommended screenings and she hopes to see a big crowd at this year’s walk.

“Let’s go do something to help others. Let’s go do something to help this organization,” she said.

FOX31 and CW2 are proud sponsors of the ‘Komen Colorado More Than Pink Walk.’
