DENVER (KDVR) — A fire that burned down a shopping center with multiple businesses in Nederland on Thursday is being investigated by several agencies, including federal investigators.
A Boulder County Sheriff’s Deputy reported the fire after 3 a.m. on Thursday at the Caribou Village Shopping Center. By sunrise, the two-story building was burned to the ground. The rubble was still smoldering on Friday morning.
Multiple agencies responded to fight the fire. An evacuation order was issued for residents in the area, and was lifted at 9:47 a.m.
Over a dozen businesses were destroyed, including a yoga studio, winery, brewery, doctor’s office, a small police sub-station and more.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and several agencies are working together on the investigation, including:

- Boulder County Sheriff’s Office
- Colorado Bureau of Investigation
- Division of Fire Prevention and Control
FOX31’s Lisa D’Souza was on the scene Friday morning, which was taped off for the investigation. Police were on the scene making sure no one crossed the tape.

The grocery store that shares a parking lot with the shopping center is part of the area that is taped off, and is not accessible to the public as it is part of the investigation scene.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said investigators are looking for more information. Anyone who was in the area before, during or after the fire, and has any pictures or videos of the fire or surrounding areas, is asked to upload them to the agency’s evidence submission portal online.

The sheriff’s office said that no injuries were reported in the fire. However, some animals that were at a nature center there did not survive.
