DENVER (KDVR) — Newly released body camera footage shows the moments Aurora police first interact with James Craig, a former Aurora dentist, who was found guilty of murder in the poisoning death of his wife.
An Arapahoe County jury had found Craig guilty of first-degree murder in July after prosecutors said Craig’s wife, Angela Craig, had died after being repeatedly poisoned, even in her protein shakes.
The body cam footage, which was requested by FOX31 during the trial, was from March 2023, when Aurora police officers were speaking to Craig after the death of Angela.
The interaction between the officers and Craig lasts about 30 minutes right outside of Craig’s home.
In the video, the officers alerted dispatch to confirm that they were in contact with Craig. The officers then asked if he would be interested in coming to the Aurora Police Department headquarters to speak.
Craig then mentions an interest in heading there, but would only do so with an attorney present.
The officers told Craig he was not under arrest and was free to go.
After the guilty verdict was reached in July, Craig was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the first-degree murder charge, which is a mandatory sentence in Colorado. Craig was also given an additional 33 years for convictions related to other charges.
