Aurora police release video, seek public’s help in 2021 cold case shooting

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Aurora detectives are renewing their call for tips in the unsolved 2021 shooting of David Nash, releasing surveillance video in hopes someone will recognize the man who pulled the trigger.

Aug. 25, 2021, just before 8 p.m., Nash, 54, walked towards the Bristol Pointe Liquor Store on South Buckley Road.

A man wearing a blue backpack crossed paths with Nash outside the shopping center. Moments after exchanging words, Nash was shot multiple times. The suspect ran and disappeared.

“He had a very brief interaction with what seems to be a total stranger and he ended up getting shot and was killed at the scene,” said Jason McDonald with the Aurora Police Department.

McDonald says this case left investigators puzzled, even though they’re using several investigative techniques.

“Such as cell phone technology, other digital software,” said McDonald. “Even some private companies to help us out, and we have not yet identified a suspect in the case.”

Police say the community responded to the case in the past, but there have been a lot of dead ends.

“We did get a lot of calls from the public because this happened at like 7:48 in the evening,” said McDonald. “It was still daylight out and that intersection where this happened, the parking lot itself is pretty busy. We actually had a lot of people call (about) who this is; we just weren’t able to identify the suspect.”

The Nash family has waited four years for answers. Police believe someone watching the video knows the man responsible for pulling the trigger.

“Just please give a few minutes of your time to watch the video and see if you recognize this person,” said McDonald. “They have a distinct build, and they’re wearing a backpack, and look at where they come from and where they go and it’s all explained in the video, and if that sparks your memory, give us a call.”

Aurora police say they want to bring closure to this family. They say even the smallest tip can help crack the case.
