Bicycle-car crash kills bicyclist on Boulder County roadway, closes Hwy. 287 south

DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado State Patrol reported that a bicyclist died in a crash Friday evening in Boulder County that closed the southbound lanes of Highway 287.

The crash reportedly happened at about 7:41 p.m. on Highway 287 and County Road 4 and involved the bicyclist and a 2006 Honda SUV.

CSP said the bicyclist was a Hispanic male in his mid-twenties. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, a 50-year-old man, was not injured. He remained at the scene, CSP reported.

CSP is leading the investigation, and as of Friday night, the cause of the crash had not been determined.

However, southbound Highway 287 remained closed and traffic was being diverted from the roadway. Northbound Highway 287 is open, and law enforcement are warning motorists to expect delays in the area.

As of 10:30 p.m., CSP had no estimated timeframe for the southbound lane to reopen.
