DENVER (KDVR) — Residents in several parts of Boulder County could hear their outdoor warning sirens speaking over the next two weeks, but Boulder County officials said it’ll just be a test.
Officials in a press release said 20 sirens throughout the county will be replaced with new ones purchased through a federal grant that has new technology to provide clearer messaging.
“At the request of first responders, these sirens may be used for alerting affected areas during wildfires, floods, hazardous materials and other disasters,” Boulder County Office of Disaster Management Director Mike Chard said.
The areas with the new sirens will be:
- Eldorado Springs
- Jamestown
- Lyons
- Erie
- Lafayette
- Louisville
- Superior
- Unincorporated Boulder County near Marshall
During the installation, the sirens will be tested, and people in these areas could hear: “This is a test of the outdoor warning system. This is only a test.”
The sirens will warn people in the community about weather emergencies or sometimes hazardous materials or wildfires. The sirens will be meant to reach people who are outside, not inside.
