Car hits tree after 2-vehicle crash in Aurora

DENVER (KDVR) — A car hit a tree after it was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Aurora on Sunday evening, the Aurora Police Department told FOX31 in a statement.

Around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to the area near Montview Boulevard and Kingston Street for a crash.

Preliminary information suggests that a blue BMW was speeding northbound on Kingston Street when the driver ran a stop sign and crashed into a white Audi that was driving eastbound on Montview Boulevard, investigators said.

After the initial crash with the Audi, the BMW spun out and crashed into a tree.

Ashley Wickham was walking her dog when the crash occurred.

“They don’t even yield. It’s like they just blaze through with some kind of, like, angels are going to protect them,” said Wickham. “They’re starting to treat this area more and more like a racetrack.”

The vehicle was being driven by a man with a woman as a passenger.

The man had to be extricated from the vehicle by Aurora firefighters. Both he and the woman were taken to a local hospital. The man sustained life-threatening injuries, and the woman was transported with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.

“Your life is worth so much more than that extra 30 seconds speeding down the road. We would rather have you alive than watch you be carted off,” said Wichkam.

The Audi was being driven by a woman who did not require transportation to a hospital.

“This is not our first, it’s not even our fifth since we moved out here a year ago and it just keeps getting more and more dangerous by the week,” Wickham said.

Montview Boulevard and Kingston Street are closed while investigators are on the scene.

Driving under the influence is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash, police said.

FOX31 has a crew on the way to the scene.
