DENVER (KDVR) — The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that a jury had found a man not guilty of child sexual assault after two students reported alleged inappropriate touching.
The DA’s office said on Tuesday, after a five-day trial, the jury determined that Evan King was not guilty of three counts of sexual assault of a child by a person of trust, after determining “that it could not find Mr. King guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”
This comes after the Fort Collins Police Services arrested King, an educator, in July 2024, after two students came forward about the alleged abuse, according to the DA’s office.
The trial began on Aug. 25, which included testimonies from the two alleged victims, school officials and an expert in forensic interviewing for children who have been sexually abused.
“We respect the jury’s decision that they could not find Mr. King guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and thank them for their service,” said District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin. “It takes a great deal of courage for victims of abuse to come forward, especially children abused by someone in a position of authority, and I commend them for telling their story. I also want to thank Fort Collins Police for their investigation and the members of our team who fought for the victims and for justice.”
The DA’s office noted in the press release after the jury’s not guilty verdict that “victims in Larimer County should know these cases will be investigated, and we will do everything we can to support victims.”
