Denver weather: Mild first day of autumn with spotty showers and storms

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver weather forecast turns cooler and unsettled to start the new work week. A potent storm system will move through Colorado on Monday evening through Tuesday, bringing periods of steady rainfall along the Front Range and the first decent snow in some of the higher elevations.

The unseasonably cool weather will be very temporary as sunshine returns on Wednesday, lasting through the second half of the week. This will lead to a warming trend as it approaches next weekend, accompanied by dry weather.

Weather tonight: Dry and mild

Lows tonight for Monday morning, Sept. 22.

Due to some patchy cloud cover lingering through the overnight, lows will only fall to the middle 50s, but it’s going to remain dry as any evening showers dissipate shortly after sunset.

Weather tomorrow: Clouds and showers building

Highs tomorrow for Monday, Sept. 22.

Monday begins with a dry day and a mix of sun then clouds increase throughout the afternoon and evening hours. These will give way to some spotty showers and a few storms late Monday, likely after 3 p.m.. High temperatures will be a touch cooler compared to the weekend, climbing into the upper 70s.

Looking ahead: Dreary to sunshine

Showers will become more persistent moving into Monday night and Tuesday as northerly winds kick in, ushering in even cooler air. It’ll likely not make it out of the 50s on Tuesday, with periods of rain and breezy conditions making it feel blustery for the first full day of autumn.

Potential rainfall amounts through Tuesday night at 11 p.m.

This will be very beneficial for the Front Range in dealing with drier-than-normal conditions. Many spots may approach a half-inch of rain with localized amounts near an inch. Where temperatures are much cooler at our highest elevations, a dusting to a few inches of snow is likely through Tuesday afternoon, especially above 11,000 ft.

Seven-day forecast for Denver.

Following the unsettled start to the week, sunshine returns on Wednesday and lasts through next weekend. Some high clouds will stream in here by Friday into the weekend, making for more of a filtered sunshine as highs gradually return to the upper 70s and near 80 degrees.
