Denver weather: Much cooler Friday as quiet weather pattern continues

DENVER (KDVR) — Thursday was one of the hotter days the metro has had in a while, but the Denver weather forecast will be much cooler on Friday. The weekend forecast is also looking pretty good as the Broncos, CU, and CSU all have home games.

Weather tonight: Dry and smoky

Although the state will mostly be asleep, smoky skies will persist. Overall sky conditions will be mostly cloudy.

There’s a very slight chance of a light shower forming, but dry conditions are expected for most areas. Temperatures will fall into the lower 50s with a northeast breeze around 10 miles per hour, with gusts up to 20 mph possible.

Weather tomorrow: Feeling like fall

A strong cold front overnight will cause temperatures on Friday to be more akin to early October than early September. Expect afternoon highs to only be near 70 degrees, with some communities on the plains likely staying in the 60s.

Winds will turn to the east and southeast in the afternoon, around 10 to 20 mph. Skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy.

Looking ahead: Late summer heat coming next week

Saturday and Sunday will be pleasantly warm with temperatures staying below normal, around 80 degrees both days. Saturday is now looking largely dry, but there is still a slight chance for a light shower to come out of the foothills, which would most likely impact the CU game (if it the rain happens).

Sunday has a better opportunity for a shower or storm around the metro, which may make for a brief wet period during the Broncos game.

Next week sees a large warming trend. Highs will return to the middle and upper 80s, which is above normal. The metro may come close to 90 degrees, but for now, the area will likely stay just below it. No inclement weather is expected, so the dry weather pattern will likely continue into the middle of the month.
