Driver charged with first-degree assault after allegedly shooting construction worker over speed argument

DENVER (KDVR) — A driver accused of shooting a construction worker in Adams County during an argument over speeding earlier this week is facing charges of felony menacing and first-degree assault.

The suspect, identified as Isiah Small, 21, is accused of shooting the construction worker near 62nd Avenue and Broadway on Monday morning after the Adams County Sheriff’s Office says the two got into an argument about speed in a construction zone.

The sheriff’s office said Small got out of his car and, following an altercation, allegedly pulled a gun and shot the construction worker in the leg. The victim was able to take a picture of Small’s license plate, which was later flagged in the county’s FLOCK Camera System.

Deputies were then able to locate the vehicle and detained Small at his residence in Commerce City, according to the sheriff’s office.

ACSO said it first received a call about the shooting at 7:48 a.m. and that deputies were on the scene 30 seconds later. The deputies located the victim with a single gunshot wound to his lower right leg and applied a tourniquet, prior to further medical personnel arriving, the sheriff’s office said.

Small was transported for questioning prior to his arrest, at which point he was booked into the Adams County Detention Facility. The charges were filed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
