DENVER (KDVR) — Residents in Evergreen are hosting a gathering on Thursday to offer support to members of the community who were impacted by a shooting that happened at Evergreen High School.
Jefferson County said in a post on X that there will be a community gathering for people to connect and find support at the Buchanan Ball Fields at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
“If you need a place to connect, reflect, or simply not be alone, please join us,” the county said.
There will be support from mental health resources and local faith leaders at the gathering. There will also be free food for families.
The county also said that community members have offered help to the community, and said anyone who wants to donate to support the community should call 303-271-4924.
There is also a resource and information center that is now open to serve those impacted by the shooting at Bergen Elementary School, located at 1928 S. Hiwan Dr. There, people can find resources such as victim advocates, mental health professionals, school personnel and victim compensation representatives.
The Colorado Behavioral Health Administration said many youth may be experiencing grief, fear, or uncertainty after the shooting, and there are resources available for confidential help, such as the Colorado Mental Health Line by calling or texting 988, and the I Matter program, which provides Colorado youth up to 18 years old with access to free confidential therapy sessions online or in person, and in English or Spanish.
Gov. Jared Polis released a statement on Thursday asking the state not to focus on the politics of the matter, and instead find community and healing.
“As a state, we have navigated challenges before and will continue to do so, as we pray for the recovery of the two injured Evergreen High School students,” Polis said in part.
