Evergreen senior’s viral song brings faith and hope after school shooting

EVERGREEN, Colo. (KDVR) — Less than a week after a deadly shooting shook Evergreen High School, senior Judah Cox is turning heartbreak into hope.

The 18-year-old musician wrote an original song the day after the attack, channeling fear and faith into lyrics about courage, loss and trusting God through uncertainty.

“I felt like God was truly putting it on my heart to just sit down and write,” Cox said. “The words just spilled out — I was crying at the piano and didn’t know what else to say.”

Cox wasn’t on campus during the shooting, but his younger brother, a freshman, was inside the school. He said the hours of waiting to learn his brother was safe inspired the emotional ballad.

The video of Cox performing the song has quickly spread across social media, drawing hundreds of thousands of views and messages of support from classmates and strangers alike.

“I’d love to bring peace to everyone and help in whatever way I can,” he said.

Cox, who taught himself piano on an instrument left behind when his family moved into their home, plans to study music production at Full Sail University in Orlando next year.

The full performance can be found on Judah’s social media pages, @judahalexandermusic.
