Fall home decor service craze comes to Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) — The beginning of the fall season comes with a demand for home and business décor concierge services, now gaining popularity across the nation.

The services offer delivery and set up of professional festive displays. FOX31 found new services in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and Colorado Springs.

Army veteran Michael Medina and his wife, Jean-Marie, are among the first in the state to launch a fall décor business. Patch-To-Porch Colorado delivers and arranges displays with everything from bales of hay to unique and colorful pumpkins.

“We have such busy lives these days, not to mention pumpkins can be heavy,” Michael Medina told FOX31.

The Medinas select the pumpkins from a farm in Hudson before organizing the displays in their home’s garage, where 8,000 pounds of fresh pumpkins were just delivered.

“We bring them to their home, we make sure they’re clean and sanitized so that the skins actually stay intact longer,” said Michael.

The business also provides pick-up service when the season is over, then donates the pumpkins to local farms that use them for other purposes. The couple’s growing client list includes private homes as well as businesses in the downtown area.

“We were just looking for curb appeal and to dress up the front porch,” said customer Rachelle Makara.

Jean-Marie handles the design and layout of each custom display.

“Every holiday, my mom really went all out, and it’s nice to be able to do that for other people,” she said.

Michael, who was deployed to Afghanistan in 2014, says he wants to share the sense of community he felt while serving his country.

“There was the sense of closeness and togetherness and we really feel that here,” he said.

Medina added that while it is exciting to see the family business grow, the best benefit is inspiring other families to start new seasonal traditions of their own.

“When you’re dropping off a couple of hundred pounds worth of pumpkins on somebody’s porch and you’re seeing the joy it brings to their kids and to their neighbors and everything, there’s an extra layer of unique satisfaction that comes with that,” he said.

FOX31 found the cost for seasonal yard decoration services can run from around $275 to approximately $1,000 for businesses or elaborate displays.

Consumer experts say you should always shop around for the best price, get references or referrals and check reviews. Ask about your vendor’s insurance coverage and pick-up policies and be clear on how long the pumpkins should last, which can depend on weather conditions.
