DENVER (KDVR) — A 22-year-old from California and a 21-year-old from Florida were the two men killed in an Oct. 19 plane crash near Erie Municipal Airport, according to the Weld County Coroner’s Office.
The crash happened east of the runway at the northern Colorado airport at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Niles Tilenius, 22, of San Miguel County, Calif., and William Johnston, 21, of Hillsborough County, Flor., the victims in the crash, were the only two people on the plane, according to a press release from the coroner’s office.
“We recognize that this incident may have been difficult for many in our community to witness or hear about,” the Erie Police Department said that day in an X post. “The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be conducting a full investigation into the cause of the crash.”
The coroner’s office confirmed the crash is still under investigation by the federal agencies.
