DENVER (KDVR) — Members of the community are coming together and raising funds after a fire at a Nederland shopping center destroyed over a dozen businesses.
Locals tell FOX31 that the shopping center was like the “heart of Nederland” as it was home to many community resources and small businesses, including a police sub-station, a doctor’s office, a music store, a nature center with live animals, a winery, a brewery and more.
The rubble left behind from the devastating fire was still smoldering on Friday morning, and multiple agencies are working to determine the cause of the fire.
In the meantime, the community is coming together to support those affected by the blaze.
A spokesperson for GoFundMe verified that the following fundraisers have been set up for the cause:
- Aid Nederland Shops and Employees Post-Fire
- Help Brightwood Music After Fire
- From Ashes to Hope: Restoring Beauty and Dreams in Nederland
- Help Spinning Silica & the Rashbaums Recover from the Fire
- Support Very Nice as they sort out next steps
- Support Kay O’Neil After Devastating Fire
- Reopening the Nederland Health Center
The spokesperson said that over 1,000 people have donated, raising a total of over $150,000 as of Friday morning.
The owner of Wild Bear Nature Center, which burned down and lost animals in the fire, said a fundraiser has been set up for the nonprofit to help build a new nature center. An anonymous donor added a $150,000 match donation that will be unlocked once the fundraiser reaches that goal. Donations to this fundraiser over $250 are eligible for the Colorado Child Care Tax Credit.
