Greeley one step closer to finishing $1.1B project to host the Colorado Eagles

GREELEY, Colo. (KDVR) — There is still controversy brewing over the over $1.1 billion project taking place northeast of the metro.

Greeley is set to pay $832 million of that to become the new home of the Colorado Eagles, among other amenities planned for the entertainment district.

“This is a project that is going to change the city, is going to have a profound impact in northern Colorado and across Colorado because of what it brings with the Colorado Eagles, a beautiful hotel and a tremendous water park. It is going to have a huge impact in the city,” said managing director for the city of Greeley, Paul Trombino.

An extensive residential and commercial project is in the early phases of development. Tonight, an update was given at a planning session. The project so far has cost over $10 million and is on track for groundbreaking in the spring.

“We have hit a lot of our milestones, so the project is on track for getting into construction for next year,” Trombino said.

Questions arose from council members regarding more specific details of costs, and there is still no exact number from the general contractor assigned to the project that is expected in October.

The next phase is design development, the largest step in the design process. That is set to wrap up in December, at which point more specifics on the project will be shared. City officials say it will not cost citizens a dime on their taxes.

“Hopefully people start to get really excited about what they are going to see as they hear more and more about the project, see more visuals and see more updates on where we stand,” Trombino said.
