DENVER (KDVR) — Since the longest day of the year in June, it’s been getting darker. While it may not have been noticeable at first, it’s now getting darker more quickly in Denver.

According to Time and Date data, at the end of June, Denver had nearly 15 hours of daylight, with the sun rising just after 5:30 a.m. and setting after 8:30 p.m. Heading into July, the days slowly got shorter and shorter, with the sun rising later and setting earlier.

That said, it wasn’t too noticeable as the total length of daylight only decreased by about a minute every one to two days. However, heading into the fall, it got darker faster.

Here’s how much daylight Denver loses every day

The first big change in daylight came on Sept. 20, when the sun set before 7 p.m., leaving Denver with a total of a little more than 12 hours of daylight. Since then, the amount of daylight has decreased more quickly every day by about two to three minutes, based on Time and Date data.

Wednesday marks the next notable change: it’s the last sunset after 6 p.m. until March.

On Wednesday, the sun rose at 7:25 a.m. and will set at 6:01 p.m., leaving Denver with 10 hours and 35 minutes of daylight. Since the total length of daylight is decreasing by two to three minutes every day, it will be the last 6 p.m. sunset of the year.

On Thursday, the sun will set at 5:59 p.m., and the length of daylight will continue to get shorter by two to three minutes through November. However, it may not feel that quick. The data shows the sun is only rising a minute later and setting about a minute earlier each day.

The daylight will continue to decrease at the same rate until mid-December, when the length of day stays around the same time, with the sun rising around 7:19 a.m. and setting around 4:40 p.m., with the length of the day around nine hours and 23 minutes, based on the data.

After the shortest day of the year on Dec. 21, the length of the day will start to increase by about a minute to two minutes through January.
