DENVER (KDVR) — Grocery prices have been in the news a lot recently as prices fluctuate due to the Trump administration’s tariffs.
In Denver, however, the burden of grocery prices might not as bad as other places around the country, according to a new WalletHub study that shows Denver is among the cities where people spend the least amount of their monthly income on groceries.
The study looks at the prices of 26 common grocery items in the 100 largest American cities and puts them up against the median household monthly income to see what percentage of that income goes to groceries.
Denver was among the 20 cities where people spend the least, and the two other Colorado cities on the list, Colorado Springs and Aurora, also made the lower half of the list.
Here’s where they line up against the other cities:

“In the cities where people spend the most money on groceries, residents often have low incomes on top of seeing high sticker prices on common grocery items,” Chip Lupo, WalletHub Writer and Analyst said. “Shoppers should take advantage of sales and coupons, buy generic items and buy in bulk if possible in order to save money.”
Detroit topped the list as the place where people spend the most of their income on groceries, followed by Cleveland, Ohio and Birmingham, Alabama.
