Juvenile arrested in deadly shooting of 13-year-old boy in Denver: Police



DENVER (KDVR) — A juvenile male was arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a 13-year-old boy in Denver on Saturday, according to police.

The shooting happened in the 1100 block of North Syracuse Street early on Saturday, Sept. 6, just after midnight. The Denver Police Department said officers found the boy suffering from apparent gunshot wounds when they arrived on the scene. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Friday morning, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as Ja’Loynie Cosey, who had just turned 13 on July 25. He died of a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was determined to be a homicide.

Police also announced Friday that a juvenile male, whose name is not yet being released due to their age, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the shooting after an extensive investigation. The suspect is now being held for investigation of first-degree murder, and the shooting remains under investigation.

The police department noted that the information released Friday is based on the preliminary investigation, and details may change as more evidence may be collected and analyzed.
