DENVER (KDVR) — Thornton police were asking the public to avoid the Anythink Library on Huron Street as they investigated a shooting call, resulting in a car crash into a residence and the detention of suspects.
Police said the shooting occurred at about 2 p.m. near 1201 West Thornton Parkway. The area is west of Interstate 25 and north of Thornton Parkway.
The agency reported on X at about 3 p.m. that it was responding to a shooting call in the area of 9400 Huron Street. The agency updated the situation at about 3:20 p.m., telling the community there is “no longer a threat.”
The department said that preliminary investigation found that there had been a shooting involving multiple people and the suspects attempted to flee in a vehicle.
However, the suspects crashed into an area residence and the suspects then fled on foot. Officers arrived on scene and quickly set up a perimeter.
Officers searched the area and located and detained several people who were believed to be involved in the shooting. The agency said that multiple handguns were also recovered on scene, but there were no injuries related to this shooting.
Details about the incident were limited as of 3 p.m., but a Thornton police public information officer told FOX31 that suspects were detained and there were no reported victims. The agency did not say how many suspects were detained, or if charges are being considered.
The police department said the investigation is ongoing and is asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has information not yet shared with investigators to call the Thornton police tip line at 720-977-5069.
