Longmont High School student in custody after reportedly found with handgun

DENVER (KDVR) — A Longmont High School student was taken into custody after a handgun was found in his possession when he came onto campus Thursday afternoon.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Longmont Public Safety said the Skyline High School student resource officer was notified of a student’s social media posts with what appeared to be a handgun. After interviewing the student, they said it had been sold to a Longmont High School student.

Skyline High School shared the information with the Longmont High School SRO and administration, and the staff was able to find the student as he arrived on campus around 1:25 p.m., Longmont Public Safety said.

The student was taken to the school office for a pat-down search. Longmont Public Safety said a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun was recovered from the student, but it was unloaded, and there wasn’t ammunition found on the student.

Longmont Public Safety said no threats were made to students or staff members, and there was no sign that the firearm was going to be used on school property.

The student was taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Boulder.

Students, parents and community members can anonymously report concerns to school officials or through Safe2Tell Colorado.

Longmont Public Safety is asking anyone with information about this incident and has not spoken with police to call (303)651-8501 and reference Longmont Police Report 25-12565.
