WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (KXRM) — A man has been arrested in Woodland Park after allegedly sabotaging a cell tower, impacting T-Mobile and Verizon users as well as emergency services.
According to the Woodland Park Police Department, the city experienced a “major service outage” of cellular coverage on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 28. The interruption was originally suspected to be weather-related, which was what service providers told several customers who called for information.
On Friday, WPPD said radio service workers reported that an unknown man had allegedly entered a fenced property on Thursday around 4:45 p.m., where the service tower is located, and intentionally turned off the power supply to the radio communications tower.
The service workers reported to police that the man had moved circuit breakers to the “off” position, disabling the tower and shutting down T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless communications equipment. Through their investigation, WPPD said investigators believe cell services were his intended target.
On Friday, WPPD said officers developed probable cause to arrest Christian Buhr in connection to the crime.
Buhr is being held at the Teller County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
