Moraine Park Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park opening September reservations

DENVER (KDVR) — After two years of renovations, Moraine Park Campground in the Rocky Mountain National Park is slowly rolling out reservations, and soon, campsite spots will be up for grabs for the start of leaf peeping season.

On Thursday at 8 a.m., the national park said it’s releasing additional campsite reservations for Sept. 10 through Sept. 27, which is right around when fall leaves are expected to change color and start to peak at Rocky Mountain National Park.

These reservations will be the last for the next month, as the national park said the campsite would close again on Sept. 28 to finish some remaining construction before reopening on Oct. 20 on a first-come, first-served basis.

The popular campground first closed in 2023 for a $19 million major rehabilitation project to replace the campground’s water, wastewater and electrical systems. After remaining closed through the summer of 2024 due to construction delays, it finally reopened this summer.

Limited reservations for the 244 sites near the Estes Park entrance via Bear Lake Road were released in July and August. Now, September reservations will come out soon.

The campsite has space for tents and RVs, some with electrical hook-ups, and all sites have a picnic table, a fire ring with a grate and a food storage box.

Reservations will be available through www.recreation.gov
