DENVER (KDVR) — A woman is dead and an infant was seriously injured in a crash involving a Regional Transportation District bus in Aurora on Thursday evening, according to police.
The Aurora Police Department said that the crash occurred at East 30th Avenue and East Parklane Drive at about 5:18 p.m.
The woman and her one-year-old had been ejected from the Mercedes SUV they were in and were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the police department. Police said that the child was unrestrained at the time of the crash, causing the baby to be ejected.
At about 7:30 p.m., Aurora police said that the driver of the SUV who died is believed to be a mother. The infant who was in the vehicle was stable but had life-threatening injuries, according to the police.
The agency said the mother and infant left a family dispute that police were responding to at a high rate of speed, and swerved, wherein she hit the bus head-on. Police are investigating possible intoxication and speed as contributing factors in the crash.
Aurora police said three people on the bus were also transported, all with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the people transported from the bus was the driver; the other two were passengers. Four other passengers on the bus were not transported.
There were road closures in place at East 30th Avenue between Scranton Street and Ursula Street. The investigation is ongoing.
