Motorcylist dies in crash after fleeing from attempted traffic stop in Loveland: police

DENVER (KDVR) — A motorcyclist who allegedly fled from an attempted traffic stop near East 7th Street and Boise Avenue in Loveland died Friday night after colliding with a SUV, Loveland police said Saturday.

The Loveland Police Department said the motorcyclist fled after the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop just after 8 p.m. Friday, after observing the 37-year-old rider “traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed.”

LPD said the LCSO deputies terminated the stop after they lost sight of the motorcycle and that, shortly after, LPD officers learned of a crash near Eisenhower Boulevard and Denver Avenue.

Upon arrival, LPD said patrol officers and deputies found a motorcycle matching the one that had fled earlier had collided with a “smaller” SUV.

The motorcyclist was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies, where he was pronounced dead, according to police, who said the 22-year-old driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, despite their vehicle being “heavily damaged.”

“The SUV driver, though physically well, will carry emotional scars from such a violent and traumatic collision,” LPD said.

LPD noted that if passengers had been in the rear seats of the SUV that they “likely would not have survived,” based on the damage to the vehicle.

Investigators with the Loveland CRASH Team determined the motorcyclist was at fault for the crash, according to LPD, which said witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling “recklessly at high speed” when the crash occurred.
