'No Kings' road closures, RTD service disruptions in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — A “No Kings” protest in downtown Denver caused road closures and RTD service disruptions on Saturday.

The Regional Transportation District and the Denver Police Department were providing information on closures throughout downtown Denver and in the area of the Colorado State Capitol Building.

At around 1:09 p.m., DPD said demonstrators started marching from the State Capitol.

DPD said road closures were implemented on Colfax and Broadway avenues, which have since been reopened. However, closures on Lincoln Street, just south of 13th Avenue, were still in place as of 6:20 p.m. on Saturday.

RTD also said around 12:29 p.m. that Lincoln Street was closed near Civic Center and that bus routes 0, 1, 6, 10, 15, 16 and 83 were being detoured, which resumed operations at 3:50 p.m.

DPD at around 3:37 p.m. said most demonstrators had appeared to left downtown Denver along with the State Capitol after “a peaceful march.” However, the department noted that a person was arrested for “possession of a weapon (knife),” but it is unclear the identity of the person or the events that led up to the arrest.
