DENVER (KDVR) — Over a year after Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic’s brother was charged with assault after a viral video of him punching a fan during a playoff game, the older brother has pleaded guilty to two charges in the case.
It all happened on April 22, 2024, while the Nuggets played the Los Angeles Lakers, beating the California team with a buzzer-beater.
However, during the game, Jokic’s brother, Strahinja, was caught on video pushing his way through the stands of Ball Arena and throwing a punch toward another spectator’s head. That spectator later filed a civil lawsuit against Strahinja, alleging that he was heckled for being a Lakers fan at the Nuggets game.
On Oct. 10, Strahinja pleaded guilty to one count of trespassing and one count of disorderly conduct. He was then sentenced to one year of probation.
Strahinja was described in court records as being 6 feet, 9 inches tall and 287 pounds. He previously faced a third-degree assault charge in the case.
According to the affidavit from the Denver Police Department, a doctor diagnosed the victim with a concussion. Initially, the victim did not want to press charges out of fear of retaliation, the affidavit states, but changed his mind about two weeks later.
Strahinja was ticketed and admitted to the incident in “an unprompted, voluntary statement,” police said. The affidavit said he told police he was defending an older man.
