Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience shutting its doors

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) —The Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience (RGDE) will close its doors for good at the end of 2025, after almost 10 years delighting visitors.

According to the RGDE, the last day of operations will be Dec. 31, 2025.

“Dinosaurs may have roamed the world for up to 180 million years, but the RGDE’s journey is now sadly coming to an end,” said Zach Reynolds, the RGDE’s director and president. “While scientists think a meteor ended the show for the dinosaurs. The business climate for the past several years is ending our run.”

The RGDE took its first steps on July 16, 2016, and has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world to learn about Colorado’s rich paleontological past. 27 life-size fossil casts, a ropes course, and an outdoor animatronic Dinosaur Wild Walk helped blend entertainment with scientific education, creating lasting memories and providing a greater appreciation for Colorado’s prehistoric past.

“The RGDE will remain open and ready to entertain visitors until the end of the year, so there’s still time to enjoy our museum and take in the sweeping views of the Sangre de Cristo Range from up on our ropes course one last time,” Reynolds said.

According to the RGDE, gift certificates and memberships will be valid until close. The RGDE is also offering discounts on everything in the gift shop, so if you’re looking for a holiday gift for the dinosaur-lover in your life, now is the time to visit the museum.

“I’d like to thank our dedicated and incredible staff, our members, patrons, visiting school groups, partner businesses, Garden Park Paleontological Society, and our awesome community for their strong support over the years,” Reynolds said. “It’s been the honor of a lifetime for my family to have run the RGDE, and we immensely appreciate the opportunity to have shared our journey with so many wonderful people.”
