Three lucky Coloradans score big as Powerball jackpot rises to $1.3B

DENVER (KDVR) — There are no winners for the Powerball jackpot yet, but some Coloradans were still able to win big on Monday.

With the last winner drawn on May 31, the Powerball jackpot rose to $1.3 billion after no one matched all six numbers on Monday. Now, the jackpot will be the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history if there is a winner in the drawing on Wednesday night.

While there wasn’t a jackpot winner on Labor Day, some people still got a good amount of cash. Two ticket holders in Montana and North Carolina each won $2 million and $1 million winners were drawn in several states.

In Colorado, there were some winners as well.

On Monday, the Colorado Lottery said three people won between $50,000 and $150,000 by adding Powerplay, which is a multiplier for an extra $1. After choosing five numbers from 69 numbers and one from 26 for the Powerball, three people walked away with lucky tickets.

In Englewood at a Rocket on East Arapahoe, one person matched four of the five numbers as well as the Powerball, and after a multiplier, they left with a ticket worth $150,000.

Meanwhile, at a Colorado Springs King Soopers on West Baptist Road and a Steamboat Springs Safeway on East U.S. Highway 40, two others purchased tickets worth $50,000 each for Monday night’s drawing.

Wednesday’s jackpot is up to $1.3 billion, and while the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to the Colorado Lottery, the odds of winning a prize in Powerball are 1 in 24.9.
