DENVER (KDVR) — A driver who died in a crash on Interstate 25 Tuesday afternoon in Lone Tree was hit by a tire that came off another vehicle, city officials said.
The crash happened Tuesday at around 3:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate just north of RidgeGate Parkway. The crash caused some lane closures and heavy traffic delays in the area at the time.
A spokesperson for the City of Lone Tree said in an update on Wednesday that a vehicle traveling south on the interstate was hit by a tire that came off a different vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes.
The southbound driver died of their injuries from the collision with the tire.
The driver of the vehicle that lost its tire did pull over to the shoulder and stayed at the scene until law enforcement arrived, officials said.
Closures were in place and impacted traffic for several hours while investigators were on the scene. The name of the person who died has not yet been released.
