Traffic backs up on I-25 near downtown Denver after construction equipment crash

DENVER (KDVR) — Only one lane is open on southbound Interstate 25 near downtown Denver after a piece of construction equipment fell off a trailer on Wednesday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the Colorado Department of Transportation said a piece of equipment fell off a trailer on southbound I-25 near 20th Street. CoTrip said four right lanes are closed between Park Avenue and 20th Street in Denver for the crash.

The department said this occurred when the contractor on the I-25 overlay project was removing paving equipment.

Google is reporting a 15-minute delay on the road as of 6:30 a.m., and FOX31’s traffic analyst Hank Cary said commuters might want to consider an alternative route this morning.

Alternate routes

Cary said the HOV lanes are moving quickly and will save time getting to downtown Denver.

Cary said drivers can also head west and take Pecos Street or Federal Boulevard south, which will get drivers onto the 20th Street on-ramp and back onto I-25.

The department said the roadway will reopen when the equipment is removed.
