DENVER (KDVR) — A Guinness World Record was broken Tuesday evening right in Commerce City.
UCHealth and the Colorado Rapids achieved the longest chain of sports scarves at DICK’s Sporting Goods Park. The new record was measured at 5,280.78 feet, with the previous record held by the Columbus Crew, a fellow Major League Soccer team, with 432.2 feet.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of breaking this Guiness World Record,” said Padraig Smith, president of the Colorado Rapids, in a press release.
UCHealth and Rapids teamed up to break the record as part of their Colorado initiative, “Ready. Set. CO.” The initiative challenges Coloradans to reach healthier lifestyles and keep Colorado as one of the healthiest states in the nation.
“It’s wonderful to do with great partners like UCHealth and I think it’s just a fun, innovative, really nice way to do something different and to encourage people to get out and be active. I think with Ready. Set. CO, it’s something we’re all aware of – this desire to make Colorado the healthiest and fittest state in the country. It’s something we’re fully behind and thrilled to be doing in conjunction with UCHealth,” said Smith.
The chain of sports scarves featured the Rapids and UCHealth brands, along with the Colorado flag, as the final design of the chain.
The new Guinness World Record is the first time UCHealth has partnered with a professional soccer team. However, this is not the first time the organization has broken a Guinness World Record. They had previously achieved the largest American football lesson, the most people in an online chain passing a soccer ball and the largest gathering of people wearing false mustaches.
