DENVER (KDVR) — A drone was able to help catch a man who police say was swinging a big red machete at people and running through backyards in Boulder on Tuesday.
The Boulder Police Department posted the footage of the drone, shown in the video player above, which was used to track down a suspect who was allegedly swinging a machete at people and ran from the scene.
Police said they used Air 1, a police drone, to find the suspect, who was running through the backyards of a nearby apartment complex. The drone team was able to find the suspect, “dressed not unlike a 90s era Backstreet Boy,” and notify the responding officers.

The drone also captured the man allegedly stealing a bicycle, which he rode off with, but “he didn’t get very far though thanks to Air 1’s watchful eyes,” said police on Facebook.
Police said officers were able to corner the suspect near a culvert at 30th and Mapleton Streets and take him into custody safely. The suspect was then booked into the Boulder County jail and faces charges of felony menacing, theft and obstructing a peace officer.
Police said an officer was even able to return the stolen bike a few minutes later.
“We’re thankful this ended without anyone getting hurt and proud that we can use the latest technology and honed police skills to keep our community safe,” the department said.
