'Westy Fest' returns to Westminster City Park

DENVER (KDVR) — The city of Westminster is hosting its annual fall festival at Westminster City Park from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The festival, which is dubbed “Westy Fest,” is free to attend and includes 30 free carnival games, a ropes course, bounce houses and trampolines, trick-or-treating, live music from local bands on two stages and a hot air balloon glow.

Attendees can purchase items from vendors, including food, beer and crafts. There will also be a pumpkin patch located at the lake pavilion, with pumpkins of various sizes and costs available for purchase.

The city said it will be providing a free “pumpkin valet” and shuttle for the event, so attendees can check their pumpkin during the festival instead of having to carry it around.

Costumes are allowed; however, the city asks that all costumes be family-friendly and not include any sharp objects, sticks, bats or replica guns or swords.

Hot air balloon ‘glow’

The city said there are six hot air balloons scheduled to go on display during the event, with the balloons arriving at 4:30 p.m. and being inflated at approximately 5:45 p.m.

The balloons will notably remain on the ground during the event, but will be lit up so attendees can see them glow.

The city notes that the inflation of the hot air balloons is weather dependent, but, in the event it is too windy, pilots will still torch their flames — known as candle-sticking.

Location and parking

The festival is located at Westminster City Park at 10455 N. Sheridan Blvd. The city recommends attendees take advantage of a shuttle system set up for the event, with shuttles set to run every 15 to 20 minutes from noon to 9 p.m.

Shuttle locations include:

  • College Hill Library at 3705 W. 112th Ave.
  • Westminster City Hall at 4800 W. 92nd Ave.
  • Westminster High School at 6933 N. Raleigh St.

General parking will otherwise be extremely limited for the event, according to the city, which said handicapped parking will be located near the event, however.

There will also be a free bike valet located on the north side of the park, as well as courtesy golf carts for attendees with mobility needs who take advantage of the shuttle system.

Attendees are recommended to leave pets at home, but, if brought, the city said they must be kept on a leash.
