Witness says police collected multiple weapons while serving arrest warrant near DU

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver police say one person is in custody after officers served an arrest warrant near the intersection of South University Boulevard and East Iliff Avenue.

A spokesperson for the department says four people were detained during the incident, but it’s unclear how many people were arrested.

Nick Pepper, who witnessed the arrest, told FOX31 that police pulled into the alleyway behind his apartment on South University Boulevard around 3:45 p.m. Pepper said that police surrounded two cars, and four people were asked to exit those vehicles and were detained.

Pepper says that’s when police started pulling weapons out of one car.

“One of them was like a really large rifle, so that caught my attention,” said Pepper. “They started stacking them up on the cop car.”

The incident happened just a few blocks away from the University of Denver, and Pepper says it’s not typical to see a large police presence in his neighborhood.

“Nothing too interesting usually happens around here,” said Pepper.

Denver police have not confirmed what the suspect was wanted for or what charges they could be facing.
