DENVER (KDVR) — The world’s largest passenger aircraft, known as the “Airbus,” took off from Denver for the last time this year — but don’t worry, the more than a million-pound plane will be back soon at the Denver International Airport.
The Airbus gained local popularity in January after Lufthansa German Airlines announced Airbus flights between Denver and Munich Airport. This service took place through the spring and into the fall, operating nearly 350 flights before its last flight from DIA on Friday.
The double-decker plane’s last flight in Denver didn’t last long, as Lufthansa announced on Tuesday that it would be returning to DIA with more Airbus flights to and from the Munich Airport.

The airline said it’s returning the service on June 9, 2026.
Earlier this year, FOX31’s Jeremy Hubbard spoke to the crew and some passengers of the Airbus A380 for an episode of Colorado Conversations.
This comes after DIA said the Airbus contributed to a 6% increase in international passengers through September. The airport also said there have been positive responses from the aircraft.
“We are grateful to Lufthansa for trusting Denver with the investment of their largest passenger aircraft,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “DEN has never experienced such an overwhelmingly positive response to a specific aircraft type, and the A380 has engaged all passenger types – from aviation enthusiasts to families to business travelers – and also enhanced DEN’s operational profile.”
The A380 is a double-decker plane that holds 509 passengers. Lufthansa said its take-off weight is 560,000 kg, or 1,234,588.67 pounds. It has four Rolls-Royce engines, which can generate what about 3,500 cars can produce.
